Beer is not just one of the most popular alcoholic beverages worldwide, it is also one of the oldest human inventions. But while the earliest evidence of beer brewing is from ancient Sumer, today beer is almost synonymous with Germany.

Beer is an integral part of German culture and Germany is home to the biggest beer festival in the world. Oktoberfest brings millions of people from around the world to Bavaria to partake in the annual celebration, where up to seven million liters of beer is consumed every year – all of which has been brewed according to the rules of Reinheitsgebot, the German beer purity law from the 16th century!

Germany is home to 1400 breweries which produce 95.8 million hectolitres of beer annually. German beer styles are enjoyed worldwide, and many specialized German beer bars exist in places far from Europe.

Sebastian Priller is the head brewer at Riegele, a German brewery that was established in 1386. Sebastian is continuing his family’s legacy as the 28th generation of Riegele brewers. Riegele was named the Best German Brewery in 2017, while Sebastian holds the titles of Craft Brewer of the Year for 2017 and the World Champion of Beer Sommeliers for 2011.
