Lesson details
In a contemporary world dominated by craft beer, the humble pale ale has become all the rage. This style pays homage to beer's champion ingredient - hops!
But while the craft beer industry may have given this style its turn in the spotlight, pale ales have actually existed for over 300 years. Thanks to tax cuts and advancements in technology that made the production of pale barley malt possible, British brewers back in the day created this hoppy, easy drinking brew with hints of citrus.
And as this was the 18th Century and the Brits were colonizing parts of the world, the clever brewers of the time invented a beer that could survive long journeys across the oceans. So the India Pale Ale was born, loaded with natural preservatives - alcohol and hops!
Skill up with beer aficionado Kirrily Waldhorn as she shares some insight into this popular style of beer.
