Lesson details

That glass of delicious wine in your hand started its life as a grape growing on a vine, which was then harvested and crushed into juice. For it to become alcoholic, it had to undergo the process of fermentation.

While the idea of tiny single-celled microorganisms eating away at the sugars in grape juice may not sound too appealing, it is thanks to this hard work performed by yeast that we get to enjoy the wonders of alcohol!

In this online lesson, sommelier Kristene King Thrall explains how yeast turns grape juice into wine.
